My Little Ballerina

Okay, so here's the story of the ballet classes. I have been searching for a ballet class for 3 year olds for some time now and until just last week, was not able to find one that was anywhere near where we live. I finally found one online that was just down the road and we went by there over the weekend to check it out. The guy working there gave me quite the sales pitch and I was feeling excited to get her signed up... until I saw the tuition... $95!!! What?! Oh, and that does not include the registration fee, the performance fee, or the performance costumes. Hmmm, I don't think so. So my search continued until I found a recreation center nearby that does offer a dance class for 3-6 year olds. We stopped by yesterday and the girl at the desk told me that classes started last week, but that I could still register (for a much more reasonable $30) and start her the very next day (today). Yea!

I've really been pumping Allary up for this and pushing her to do well with the potty training and getting her all excited. We drove all over yesterday trying to find her some beautiful ballerina clothes, and she wore them all last night and wanted to sleep in them. So this afternoon, she was pretty much bouncing off the walls with excitement when I told her she could put on her ballet clothes and get ready to go.

We get there, get her officially registered at the desk, only to then find a sign on the studio door that class has been canceled today because the floors are being refinished. What??? Oh man, try to explain that to this little face.

I felt so bad that I told her she could have whatever she wanted. (If she would have asked for a pony I may have just had to sell the car) She said she wanted ice cream, so we went to Dairy Queen.

Whew! Amazing what a little ice cream can do.

The lady at the desk felt so bad about her mistake in not informing us of the cancellation yesterday, that she charged me only half the monthly price and said that Allary could start next week.

We love the zoo!

We bought a zoo membership at the beginning of the summer and we have put it to good use. Here are a few pictures from our last visit. Jason took a few days off work since he hasn't been around much lately and so we went to the zoo the day after Labor Day. It was great because no one was there and the weather was perfect.

This is Allary sitting on the trunk of a giant elephant.

On the train...
Whoa!

I'm pretty sure this leopard thought Allary might make a tasty little treat.

Catching Up

These are just some random pictures from the last month or two of what we've been up to.

Potty training is not going well lately... I swear this kid has no bladder control. So, it's back to Pull-ups for now. Ugh. I can't even talk about it without feeling super frustrated. Anyway, my latest motivation for her is that she can take ballet classes if she will work hard and wear panties and keep them dry. Because, after all, ballerinas do not wear Pull-Ups. So, in keeping with this motivating theme, I've gotten a couple of Angelina Ballerina books and DVD's. This is a picture of her watching her show all dressed up like a ballerina.

I can't remember if I already posted this photo or not. Jason decided to have a backyard camp out with Allary one night. I enjoyed the evening off and a good night's sleep indoors.

I try to do a "learning time" activity with Allary every afternoon. These are a couple things we've come up with and enjoyed the past little while. For this activity, we were working on her colors. I cut out a bunch of pictures from magazines that were all either blue, green, or yellow. Then she got to paste the pictures on the corresponding colored sheet of paper. She was simply thrilled to be allowed to use the glue stick.

This day, we got out the big butcher paper and the paints. I cut out some simple shapes from sponges and let her dip them in the paint to make shapes on the paper.

Good thing it's washable.
I got this idea from a cute book we found at the library called "Shape Capers." I used construction paper and cut out a variety of shapes in all sizes and colors. Then we made pictures out of the shapes, all while learning the names of the shapes.

This is Allary after helping Daddy out in the yard one day. I had to laugh.

One of Allary's very favorite things is coloring. I got this GIANT coloring book for Allary to give her something special and fun to do while Jason was out of town. She will spend hours working on these large pictures. It's great. I did the castle and one bird, but she did the rest by herself. She is quite talented, if I do say so myself.

We have a zoo membership and so we have been to the zoo several times this summer. Allary's very favorite thing at the zoo is the train ride.

The carousel is also a big hit.

The heat has been letting up a bit the past few days and so we ventured out to the park last week.

In other news, Jason finally got a calling in our ward, two callings in fact. He is a teacher in the Elder's Quorum and also the Cub Scout Master. He is excited about both and glad to finally feel like he is being put to use.
That's it for now.

More Family Reunions

We went to a small water park/campground a few weekends ago for Jason's Mom's family reunion. Allary had a great time playing in the water.

My Little Rocker

I saw this cute little shirt at Old Navy for $2. I had to have it. While I continued to peruse the Clearance section, Allary reached out of the cart and pulled this hat off the shelf. I made her try the shirt on right there in the cart (I know, I know) and then she put the hat on and I said, "Oooh, Allary, you look like a rock star!" She said, "No Mommy, I'm not a rock star." She then picked up the hangar and started rockin' out on it like a guitar and dancing and said, "Now, I am a rock star!" I was laughing so hard, and I, of course, had to buy the rock star outfit. I also found some cute little pants at Target a few days later; silver, covered in glitter, with pink rhinestones on the pockets, definite rock star appeal. :)

Are you ready for some FOOTBALL!

In the evenings, the boys (and Allary) played a little backyard tackle football. Allary loves to rough-house with her Daddy and so she did not even hesitate to jump right in the game and tackle anyone she could catch, whether they had the ball or not. She may be very sweet and girly, but she is also one tough little cookie.

Go Allary!!!

Allary says, "Time to sit out and take a little break...

..stretch my muscles...

..and fix my 'do. Who says you can't play football AND look fabulous?"
