St. Potty's Day

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
We hope everyone is wearing green.

Notice the nice green bruise on her forehead to match her shirt.

Today may otherwise be called "St. Potty's Day" for us, only there's not much that's happy about it. We are one week and 2 days into potty training and I have decided it is pretty much the worst thing ever! It just makes me want to scream. I have not found anything that motivates her to want to do better or to discourage her from having accidents, and I feel as though I've tried every tactic and every reward I can think of. I know she is capable because she has proved this on multiple occasions for a few months now, so I thought it would be no big deal to move from the pull-ups to the underwear. Oh my goodness, was I wrong. I am so sick of cleaning up accidents and I find myself taking it very personally every time she does. What a horrible horrible experience.
P.S. I always appreciate comments (and I mean this in the nicest way possible) but please don't comment to tell me what worked for your child who was miraculously potty trained in a day or two. Commiserating comments only please.

Sorry you're having such a miserable time! I know how frustrating it can be. After weeks of struggling w/ Jacob, he was finally potty trained only to stop caring all of a sudden. He didn't even care if he was sitting in wet or poopy underwear. I would go upstairs and think, what is that horrible smell?! It was Jacob. I tried positive reinforcement (and negative reinforcement) to no avail. He finally did get potty trained, but I really don't know what the motivation was. Maybe that I told him couldn't go to school until he wore big boy underwear ALL the time. It's these horrible experiences that make us much more hesitant to start trying on subsequent kids. However frustrating this is, there will be an end sometime. Try to stay positive! We'll be thinking of you. I'm grateful that I only have to go through that one more time. ;-)

I just thought of another story to make you feel better. Maddy had been potty trained for several months before Jacob was born, but purely out of spite she'd tinkle and poo on her floor whenever she was in trouble. I would even take her potty first to try to avoid this, but somehow she managed to squeeze more out on her floor just to make me mad. I really took these accidents personally. There were moments when I could have killed her, but here she is 9 yrs. old; only occasionally as frustrating! ;-)

She is so stinking cute! That top picture is priceless. I'm so sorry you're having a crappy time (literally). I wish I had ideas! I'm pretty sure every parent has to go through it at some time- for example, Jarom already gets pee AND poo everywhere in our house somehow, and he is in diapers! How the heck does that happen?! I am already having potty training nightmares. I think someone definitely needs to invent the potty-training camp where you can send your kid for a week, go to the beach and drink virgin strawberry daiquiris in the sun, and come home to a fully potty trained and happy kiddo. That person will make a mint.

here is one for ya. Caleb's new favorite thing to do is when he is napping he likes to completely take off all his clothes and pee in his room. Then he covers it up with a toy or something, thinking that i won't find it! I am finding myself cleaning up accidents on the floor too! I feel for you. Good luck
